Did You Know?

When Ellen White was a missionary in Australia, she was a popular speaker. But at Australia’s first camp meeting in 1894 the devil was angry and determined to interfere with Mrs. White’s powerful preaching. I think Satan was especially angry about her subjects: Jesus, The Ten Commandments, Sabbathkeeping, The Second Coming of Christ, and The Signs of the Times.

A gang of trouble-makers attacked the camp meeting’s little city of tents, throwing stones and pulling down tents. So the camp officials appealed for police protection.

A big Irish police officer came out to protect Mrs. White. But she was not frightened. Time and again her guardian angel had delivered her from the enemies of the Lord. So she peacefully went to bed in her tent and fell asleep.

The police officer watched carefully for the gang of thugs. Not long after midnight, the police officer’s eyes popped as he saw a light suddenly appear over Mrs. White’s tent. He watched, spellbound, as an angel of God took shape as a silvery spectacle. Deeply impressed, he returned to police headquarters and said he wasn’t needed—the angel of the Lord was protecting Mrs. White.

Angels protect God’s missionaries, at home or abroad, today. “Throughout earth’s history, evil forces have threatened Jesus’ followers. But armies of angels have protected them. Only in heaven will we learn how many times God’s angels saved us from Satan’s plans!” (Messiah, p. 147).
